Silk Theory

Sitting in a restaurant on a weekend, streaming through my mails and Facebook, randomly scrolling through a notification my eyes focused on a sentence. It was “Explore the silk route with us”

Every one of us has heard about silk. Silk ages back to 3630 BC when they were reserved for the emperors of China. Gradually the use of silk spread throughout China and then to many regions of Asia and hence forth.

In my opinion Silk can be compared to teamwork in an organization. You might think I am crazy, how can a piece of cloth be compared to teamwork?

Let me explain.

Silk is made via silk worm. The basic ingredients that form silk are water and protein (basic building blocks of life). With the help of these two materials, the silk worm forms a cocoon. Every thread of that cocoon that later forms silk is tough, resilient and flexible.

Now let’s see how this can be used in organizational teamwork. In my terminology “Silk Teams” All organizations that wants to thrive in today’s extremely competitive world should adopt to the Silk Methodology (Silk Teams)

Every organization needs a manager who can produce exceptional results using basic resources (In the case of silk that manager is the silk worm). Like the worm, the manager should be know how to creatively use his own skills to his facilitate team to work together and achieve unimaginable results.

Every employee should have 2 basic building blocks of an organization:
  • Character
  • Competence
These two things are essential in all employees. The important thing is how a manager interlocks these traits of an employee with the traits of other employees in a team, interweaving them in such a way that they produce the most exceptional results organization has ever seen “SILK Results.”

Now you must be thinking “Okay, we have created silk teams but what are the benefits?” Well here are the benefits of a silk team:

Silk has many characteristics. I have chosen the 3 which I think relate best to teams in organizations.


Silk has the characteristic of not irritating normal body tissues when used or worn, similarly silk teams do not create issues for organization when assigned tasks to produce results. Like silk, teams try to provide luxury and comfort to the beneficiary.


If not properly taken care of silk dissolves in acids and other organic and inorganic solutions, similarly if these silk teams are not taken care of in an organization and not been appreciated or incentivized properly, the silk team will lose their productivity and charm.


If the manager (silk worm) has woven the 2 basic components of organizational life (competence and character) together perfectly, they will be resilient to any pressure and flexible enough to manage and welcome change in any scenario. Silk teams will become the heroes of an organization which the company can show off to the world to admire.

Let’s explore the world of nature and transform our organizations into silk organizations, for a smooth feel of awesomeness!!
