Have you ever considered the statistics of Gallup’s education and work poll? It always has amazing and surprising facts and figures which proves something out of the ordinary. Gallup’s latest study of 2014, caught everyone’s eye on the fact that Men and Women both unitedly stand on having a Male boss for supervision and leadership positions. Over the past couple of decades, the corporate environment is entirely based on how productive, creative and how well you excel in an organization you’re hired for. It all about KPI’S!
Off the record, isn’t it ironic and strange that in the ruling time period of Queen Victoria , Florence nightingale or the Queen of England which brought immense change to the society and government as a whole, majority of the staff yet preferred to report to a man than a woman instead. So then why do now women prefer reporting to a male boss than a female? Or what are the repercussions of these gender preferences for both employees and managers?
According to a survey in 2008 and 2011, female employees confessed that they were undercut or put into substantial stress who were working for female supervisors. It is said that the nature of women consists of traits of jealousy, easily aggravated, and a perfectionist therefore whatever work they take up has to be very flawless and impeccable. However, men are considered to be calm, composed, adjustable, and less likely to form a judgmental opinion for an employee however that’s false.
So here’s my suggestion, put your demands and expectations to its lowest! All too often, we arrive at a workplace considering the business culture, age group, and diversity of the organization but soon that assumptions you made weren’t all that right! Therefore, put your demands to the side and act upon yourself and the opportunity you’ve been provided.
My next advice to all you employees is to let go of the gender stereotypes! A male boss can equally be as stern, arrogant and biased as a female manager. If you believe as a man or a woman that you might not get a strict or a demanding boss because he’s a male and consists common traits of a man, think again because these may damage your relationship with your boss and ultimately your career. Deal with this problem using proactive steps
- Introduce yourself as a new bee who is ready to get mentored by its manager and polish your raw skills learning from their experiences.
- Become passionate and master yourself in the tactics of your organization.
- Break the stereotypes not only in your hierarchy level but initiate it onto your lower level.
We all belong to the younger generations who are liberal minded which can alter the old corporate change and surprise Gallup theories and his statistics in the near future. Start within and dream Big.
