My personal respect for my profession is rising with every passing day. However, my frustration on how my profession is perceived, treated, projected and marketed is also increasing!
Just read few profiles of trainers [added on my LinkedIn] – and wondering if they are bigger trainers than all the Ken Blanchard and Tom Peters and Anthony Robbins! What a shame that we don’t hesitate in over-projecting & actually lying BIG TIME on social platform – where it takes a minute for your clients to kick your _ _ _.
Dear Clients: Wait before you get impressed. Rethink before your spend training dollars. If your people and organization don’t get what they were looking for – you are hurting the dignity of my profession – a profession I am extremely proud of.
Dear Clients: Don’t get impressed with our branding. I know it matters – but its impact for which you hire us – not the brand or fun shit that we at times confuse you with.
Dear Clients: Don’t just give us a chance to win. Would you take your parents or kids to a doctor – just to give him/her a chance to perform. Be sure before your hire. At times, first wrong move have worst consequences. If it has to be a chance, check and verify our credentials. Any literature that we have authored. Clients testimonials, rather than our claimed stories.
Dear Clients: Would you continue going to a doctor, who is treating one of your disease, and is doing it for last 5 years, every year – yet every year you have the same need? Can you think of a related situation in your organization?
Dear Clients: Don’t just go for our client lists. Ask about clients who continue working with us. At least 2-5 assignments, every year, for at least last 2 years. At times, getting inspired by client list is dangerous – because in many cases, client list can also be termed as “Victims List”
I love my profession!
& I know, my profession contributes towards making your profession better!
