A very popular quote, “fake it until you make it” has destroyed many careers and dreams of professionals.
I personally don’t believe in it because it will destroy an individual’s learning and grooming ability, you need to develop it, via hands on experience, rigorous failures and multiple training and development sessions and consultancy.
As a human being or a professional, when you don’t invest time in developing yourself and waste your precious days, hours and minutes in other nonproductive things, eventually when your time comes to shine you have not worked on yourself. You have not spent any time in changing your behavior or working on your competencies and hence you have a development gap hence you fake it.
Not only leaders or people with a leadership role but every individual who wants to make a mark needs to develop themselves for success. For that matter, people in any industry or career who are willing to learn the art of excellence have to groom themselves and excel accordingly.
This is a serious pressing issue regardless of the country or the company or the business you are in.
Flakes of Gold:
Start investing time in developing yourself. Here are a few suggestions from me:
Start reading books written by leadership gurus and well known authors who have a say in their own arenas. Write blogs and articles, write about your experience’s and share it with your colleagues and friends and take their feedback and suggestions over it.
Consider enrolling yourself in a soft skill training program to learn and groom yourself or get enrolled in coaching sessions. Most importantly, network! Get in touch with consultants in the market on a personal level and get an insight as to what they think about you and how they assess an induvial.
Take out time to develop a healthy relationship with your family and with your own self. Start gyming or register for a 30-day yoga plan to refresh yourself on a regular basis.
Make sure that next time you don’t fake it when your time comes to shine because you were born to stand out and not with the crowd.
