In this tech chaos arena of the 21 century, prioritizing and managing your work becomes a huge hassle which is very critical for your own productivity and can have disastrous results on your work life harmony if not balanced and managed in the right manner.
You have 2 options; either you work harder and invest more hours of your day to cope up with the loss of productivity or you work smarter and prioritize work accordingly. I will prefer the latter one.
These are 5 simple ways leading towards super productivity.
- Speak Up – Explain what you are trying to achieve
This step is absolutely necessary since interruptions are productivity killers. The most famous one, the call from our family that takes us all on a guilt trip “How much longer do you have to work?”
At least tell your coworkers and family, but also consider letting certain clients know what time is feasible to contact you so that you are not interrupted. It is definitely possible that they might not understand, but at least they will have a mental note that you might be busy working on an important project.
- Make your productivity model, tailored specifically according to your business matrix.
Don’t go into the day thinking, “Well, I will work as long as I can,” or “I’ll work as long as I feel productive.” Set a specific target.
Everyone has a productivity zone and an operational zone, hours varies from person to person. As far as I am concerned my productive hours are either late night from 11 onwards (my king time) or early morning 6 till 10. Apart from this my mind does not spur creative juices, hence they are my operational hours in which I finish my daily work of proposal writing, meeting clients so on and so forth.
Set the stage of excellence by breaking the norm of routine.
Therefore, make your productivity model to achieve career success and obtain work life balance.
- 5 minute – say yes
I Dr. Arif Pyarali, personally and religiously follow the “5 minute” rule to make the most of small windows of time that I have at work. The idea is this: If you see a task or action that you know can be done in five minutes or less, do it immediately. According to entrepreneur Olenski, completing the task right away actually takes less time than having to get back to it later. Implementing this has made him one of the most influential online content strategists.
- Introducing a revolutionary idea of Pomodoro technique
Use Pomodoro technique for your personal health. Pomodoro is all about structured breaks at regular intervals to boost your productivity exponentially. This will allow you to take breaks at regular intervals and at the same time makes you more productive.
Recently scientists at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Louisiana reviewed the lifestyle of 17,000 men and women over the duration of 13 years. The scientists found that 54% of these people are likely to die of heart attacks! The reason was that these participants usually spend their time sitting. The enzyme, lipoprotein lipase (LPL), breaks down fat in the bloodstream and turns it into energy. When people are sitting, it is likely that LPL levels drop. This causes fat cells to build up.
If you spend more than 8-10 hours at a desk and without moving around much, then you will notice that you have less energy. Productivity is not measured by the number of hours you sit at a desk. It is measured by how much you get done without sacrificing your health.
One of the major reasons for obesity in the last 20 years is because of decreased levels of daily physical activities. Take a break and go for a daily walk.
- Social media – friend or foe
The quality and quantity of TV shows and other social platforms are increasing, but it is important to remember that empires don’t get built on couches.
Don’t get me wrong, it is important to sit down and relax at night or on a weekend and watch your favorite show but you need to cap your hours. Maybe you only need to watch one TV show per day instead of watching 5 episodes of the Game of Thrones. Just imagine how much productivity can be gained by substituting the hours you spend watching TV on homework instead.
Sitting on the couch in front of the TV has detrimental effects on your health too. When you watch TV or sit in front of your laptop for hours surfing fb or twitter, it’s not just the time you waste but you re poisoning your health with the additional intake of junk food.
Have you ever seen a Rolls Royce advertisement on TV? No, because its target audience doesn’t have the time to lie around at home and watch TV. They are out there achieving greatness.
